History

Don Bosco Institute Of Technology is a Salesian initiative that seeks to provide its students with a sound engineering foundation so that they contribute to technology and society. It provides facilities and opportunities that not only ensures a B.E. Degree but trains and guides students to exploit their potential.

DUCS

An example of this thought is DUCS. DUCS (DBIT Undergrad Computer Society) is a student body which aimed to pursue technical activities above and beyond the scope of the curriculum. It is a volunteer-based society consisting of DBIT students and faculty. Its mission is to provide both infrastructure and support for technical projects of the institute and students. It began by providing technical support to the system administrators of the institute and working on e-learning based projects which are still used by the institute. DUCS believes that knowledge should be free to the world. Having said that DUCS has always and will continue to work only on open source and free technologies.

CRAVE

There was a section of DUCS, the Multimedia Special Interest Group called MultiDUCS whose aim was to bring the awareness of the role of multimedia in Information Technology. Because of the successfulness of its implementation, it has gone from being just a project to a full fledged entity called CRAVE. CRAVE is a recursive acronym for CRAVE Research in Audio Visual Engineering. Like DUCS, CRAVE is an organization for students and by the students.

CRAVE encourages DBIT students to learn and share their knowledge with their fellow team members by working on a live project of their choice or on the one assigned to them. The institute has dedicated a Multimedia Laboratory that thrives on the architecture which is custom designed by CRAVE team. One of the major goals of CRAVE is to establish and provide support to a multimedia production house which runs completely on open source applications. The CRAVE team uses this lab facility to achieve its goals and objectives. DUCS and CRAVE have been functioning as a single unit year 2008, right from creating an architecture & setting up the machines to networking them. Today CRAVE can function on its own leaving DUCS to its original mission of providing both infrastructure and support for technical projects of students and staff of DBIT.
