Open Source Week @ DBIT
DUCS & CRAVE are organizing a week long event called Open Source Software Week at DBIT. The OSS week will be conducted in 3rd week of October i.e from 13th - 18th of October. The aim of the program is to introduce the students & staff to Open Source technology. The OSS schedule is for the week is as follows -
  • Linux Workshop (Architecture, Installation, ..)
  • Animation (Blender)
  • Graphic Designing (Inkscape, GIMP)
  • Programming & Web Development (Editors, Apache, MySQL, ..)
  • LaTeX Workshop
  • Open Office Suite
  • Gaming (Openarena, Torcs, UrbanTerror, ..)
The Workshops will be conducted by Royston, Mudassar & Christopher (Project Manager) .
 
Blender Animation Course [ Updated ]

Blender Animation Course is been conducted by CRAVE lab. The course has been divided into four modules. The modules have been prepared keeping in mind that the course content flow from Basic to Advanced Concepts. The Course fees for each module is Rs 2000/- . The four modules have been mentioned below

Module 1

Module 2

  • ANIMATION OF UNDEFORMED OBJECTS
  • SPECIAL MODELING TECHNIQUES

Module 4

  • UV TEXTURE MAPPING
  • VIDEO SEQUENCE EDITOR
  • CHARACTER ANIMATION


The Blender Animation Course has been postponed to next semester.

MediaWiki Workshop

One day workshop on Editing MediaWiki will be conducted on August 25, 2008 from 5.00pm to 6.00pm.

The Workshop will have emphasis on editing of articles on wiki. It is compulsory for all CRAVE members, non-CRAVE members may attend the workshop if interested. This workshop is important as all CRAVE members will be asked to DOCUMENT their work on CRAVE wiki.

 
Blender Workshop

One Week Training Program in Blender starting on July 8, 2008 from 11:00am to 2:00 pm

CRAVE is conducting a Training Program (Crash Course) in BLENDER (3D Animation Software) for its CRAVE members. This course focuses more on the different tools available and how to use them, covering the basic concept.

Day 1 :
  • General introduction to Blender
  • Understanding the Interface
  • Basics of Mesh Modeling
Day 2 :
  • Transform tools
  • Lighting
Day 3 :
  • Materials (Texturing)
  • Rendering
  • Camera View
  • Creating a Glass Model with walls using the above tools
Day 4 :
  • Creating a complete model of DBIT Class Room
Day 5 :
  • Sculpting
Interested students are requested to confirm their seats with Royston Alex in CRAVE Lab.

 

 
CRAVE Workshop

One Week Training Program in LINUX starting on June 20, 2008

CRAVE will be organizing a one week training program to teach how to use open source tools and applications.

It will be targeted for students and staff of DBIT.

The training program will consists of

  • Partitioning and understanding the linux architecture
  • Ubuntu OS Installation
  • OS customization
  • Introduction to Open source applications like open office, inkscape, bluefish, etc.
  • Basic Shell scripting
  • Basic Networking
  • Simple Trouble shooting
  • Introduction to various IDE in Linux like Kile, Bluefish, etc.
  • much much more...

Seats will be reserved on first come first server basis.

Interested students are requested to confirm their seats with Kevin Pinto in CRAVE Lab.

Students are requested to report at 9:45am on June 20, 2008 at the CRAVE lab for the training program.
